My name is Zeenath and I am one of many who cook and serve food waste in a restaurant kitchen called Rude Food Malmö.
Our run in the Venture Cup surfaced in a regional victory where we were voted winners in the category 'People & Society'.
We competed in the national finals. All of us at VC contended with no lesser aim than transforming the world.
It was worth it. You should have been there.

Rude Food Malmö is a people's initiative run as a social impact business. We upcycle surplus foods rescued by farmers, producers, distributors and retailers. We bring the rescued foods to our restaurant kitchen, cook the perfectly fine edibles and serve them up as scrumptious meals.

We recently marked our one year anniversary. The first year has been a constant reminder that we are more than the sum of us. The volunteers that put in their time to keep the project going, the food waste partners who handover their surplus, the public that opt for food waste meal as conscious consumers - all serve as a performative reminder of our co-existence.

On the operational side, we have hired a part time cook and a full time project coordinator enabling us to offer food waste lunch 3 days a week and Saturday brunch. Additionally, we have catered food waste meals to conferences, workshops and a wedding, with 20 to 200 guests. Revenues from our food sales and a grant from the city has enabled the project to build knowledge and forge a network around food waste action in Malmö. We are releasing a food waste cookbook in Spring 2016.

The next step is organisation building by inviting strategic stakeholders into the project to work on a sustained continuity of the initiative.

Big steps are being taken in food waste action. From the French legislative taking a radical stance against food wastage to the UN serving food waste menu to its delegates. In Sweden we appear to be placed at the forefront of this cause du jour. It is without hesitation then, that we call ourselves Sweden's first food waste catering service and restaurant.

The outcome is worth the effort. You should be a part of it.
